Ain't you the little king of diamonds..

Today's audio selection is a little beguiling to say the least; On first listen my reaction was "What?", on second listen it was "Hmm" and by the fifth listen I was polishing off the lino & laying done some serious head spins (Mentally if not physically).
Leyland Kirby's (Sounds like an old Austin car doesn't it?) 'Intrigue & Stuff Vol 3' certainly is that, it's 'The Watcher & The Watched' that's got us popping our collar; The bastard lovechild of John Carpenter & Throbbing Gristle.
One of the best club records In many a year, get your copy here.

Life is timing: No shit fucknuts..

What hooks you into a record? Sometimes all I need is one great sound to grab me and I'll listen endlessly.
That's certainly the case with 'Maze' from Actress's 'Splazsh' LP from last year; not that the rest of the tune is tardy, it's certainly not. But there's a great arpeggiated riff that's been on a permanent loop inside my brainbox of late. Have a mooch:

I can't afford to die, I don't have health insurance..

Get that fanatical music fan in your life something special this festive season; Head on over to Finders Keepers and avail yourself of the new 'Bollywood Bloodbath' LP;

"Bollywood Bloodbath features India's finest composers, such as Bappi Lahiri, R.D Burman, Sonik Omi, Sapan Jogmohan and Laxmikant Pyarelal making the kind of radical risk-rock that would under normal circumstances have studio security escorting these overworked maestros off set for a well-earned break or a relaxing exorcism. Take all the most oblique, indigenous characteristics of your favourite Bollywood musicals then condense them into a bubbling serum and watch the Jekyll and Hyde transformation commence as these A-list composers create bloodcurdling B-Music for the films they never thought the outernationals would see or hear"

This is a rather ace collection that'll have you dancing off that Christmas turkey long into the new year. From it here's Hemant Bhole with what sounds very much like his version of 'Nightflight to Venus'. Pick it up here.

I'm just gilding your lilly son..

Sometimes you just wanna post up a tune cos it's aces; Today's rekkid most definitely is that. From DJ Premier's 1998 mix tape 'New York reality check 101' comes this beaut from Canadian hip hopper Choclair. Play loud.

You must go to sleep, otherwise I can't shout at you again..

Still not sure what to make of the Boiler Room, I've never really seen DJing as a spectator sport and the crowd don't seem to be particularly lively.
Still, they have some very fine guests turn out; Last Tuesday's broadcast featured some excellent jocks from the Bleep/Warp stable including Rustie, Ikonikia and Funkineven who ended his set with this disco classic from Rick James.

What went wrong? I married a God damn musician..

Heavy remix package for King Midas Sound's 'Without You' (Reworks of their debut 'Waiting For You'), you get the likes of Kuedo, Fly Lo, Kode 9 and Gang Gang Dance all bringing maximum heat to the party;
Unlike most remix albums there's not a duff track on the record, we feature Cooly G's version of 'Spin Me Around'; Inertia creeps slowly. Out now on Hyperdub.

Of course I smashed it. I'm a serial soul-smashing mother-fucker..

There are more steps these days than you can shake a stick at; Dub, Love, Bruv, Fuck etc etc. May I propose a new one? Cinematic step.
This sprang to mind whilst listening to the marvelous new album from Kuedo, the type of record that should have sound tracked the Tron remake; Some futuristic, robotic, George Jetson shit.
'Severant' is out now on Planet Mu.

You've got to be the stupidest motherfucker I've ever dated..

You know how much we love DFA rekkids round here, even by their high standards the upcoming Factory Floor release is something a bit special; A behemoth of a tune that welds the Floor's industrial arpeggiators to the DFA's dance floor nous, even nicking their cowbell (I assume they only have one). Check the tune & the video below, it's available to purchase next week.

Andrew Weatherall @ Red Bull Music Academy 2011

Wonderful couple of hours in the company of Andrew Weatherall covering a whole range of topics, from studio techniques to the choice of jam's in your local supermarket. Awesome.

Some people assume it's always wrong to smash a cripple in the face. But is it?

Some self-styled Krautgaze to get your rocks off too today. The Early Years return with a new EP on Sonic Cathedral entitled 'Memory Case', lead track 'Complicity' is, in the words of my associate Garry Johnstokes, like Secret Machines jamming with Underworld & The Chems on really good E's. Set your phasers to epic.
Buy the wax here, or get it digitally here.

If you step up to me, you better brace your ass for a genuine smackdown..

Been very much enjoying this OM Unit EP that came out earlier this year on Plastician's Terror Rhythm Recordings; An excellent release that covers all things bass related, we feature 'Ether' a simple, but most effect piece of bottom end business. Get 'The Corridor' EP at Boomkat.
