I'm lost in a sea of intro's..

A mighty fine reissue to fill you in on today from the good folk over at Light in the Attic; Aka originated from Surabaya, Indonesia in the early 70's and went on to record 11 studio albums:

"The lead singer Ucok Harahap – who famously idolizes James Brown- is perhaps the most notorious rock performer in Indonesia’s pop history, infamous for brandishing (amongst others) coffins, whips and stripping naked on stage during performances. Sadly due to recording English based, heavy-psychedelic/progressive funk, AKA’s music failed to gain popularity at the time of it’s release."

'Hard Beat' is available in record stores now. Kicks like a fucking mule.

RIP Nick Ashford

Very sad to hear about the passing of Nick Ashford at the age of 70. The Ashford & Simpson (Valerie, his wife) writing partnership spawned a stupendous amount of popular hits for artists such as Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Chaka Khan & oodles more. From 1968 here's Marvin & Tammi doing 'You're All I Need To Get By'. RIP.

It's the latter who we feature here, a splendid low slung electro version that'll give your bass bins a proper work out. Out now on Hotflush Recordings.

You don't make me laugh. You make me want to shoot something, then laugh..

Some wonderfully slippery disco to shove your way; Boof is one of the nom de plume's of Maurice Fulton, a man whose production back catalogue is long & mighty (You may remember the excellent Syclops record on DFA a few years back).
'Shhh, Dandelions at Play' is out now on Fulton's own BubbleTease Communications imprint; Massively strong contender for electronic album of the year, get it here. (I would link to BubbleTease Communications but their website hasn't been updated since 2007).

Boof- Joi Is Smiling

I've got some cheese you might like too, in between my toes..

Bill Callahan's latest opus 'Apocalypse' has been out for a few months now; It confirms the Smog man's status as one of the foremost lyricists of our generation. The record continues in the same vein as his recent output, stripped back production allowing Callahan's splendid timbre to take centre stage. Get your copy here.

Riot City Blues

Musically speaking, the worse thing about the riots has been the loss of the Sony PIAS/Warehouse. PIAS represent independent music and the burning of the warehouse means real problems for many indies including Border Community, Chemikal Underground, Kompakt, Turk, Warp & XL Recordings amongst many others (Full list here). Way too stick it to the man, kids.
Also amongst those affected are Manchester's Finders Keepers. You'll be familiar with their happy nack of finding wonderful, long out of print records & re-releasing them to the public at large. Their latest offering is a reissue of the 'Werewolves On Wheels' soundtrack from 1971. Don Gere was the man entrusted with the film's musical score & he didn't disappoint, producing a frazzled, psychedelic accompaniment very much in keeping with the spirit of the times.
You can pick up the record from the Finders Keepers store (Both physically & digitally). Just go out and buy an independent record will ya?

Dance, Music, Clubbing

Jeez, what is it with 2011? Seem to be lurching from one catastrophe to another in double quick time.

A belter as we say in the biz. Get your copy here.

I like you better now that you're dying..

A comprehensive retrospective of 'the fearless trailblazers of psychedelia and one of the most kick-ass rock bands ever..' for your perusal today; The 13th Floor Elevators were THE original kaleidoscopic band, you can now pick up 'The Album Collection' which contains their three studio albums (The Psychedelic Sounds Of The 13th Floor, Easter Everywhere & Bull Of The Woods) plus a live performance.
The albums have all been remixed and remastered by original producer Walt Andrus. We feature the blistering 'You're Gonna Miss Me' from the 'Live' LP (With added fake applause)

Even my reflection is jealous of me..

Following on from yesterdays lost sixties artifact, here's a similar gem from the 1970's; Gary Higgins debut long player 'Red Hash' came out in March 1973, unfortunately for Higgins he was already locked up in a maximum security prison, the victim of a cannabis bust. He was also one of Nixon's first victims in the newly declared 'War On Drugs' (How's that working out for ya?) and spent many years behind bars.
The record was discovered by a new audience & 'Red Hash' was re-released in 2005: It's a beautiful collection of frazzled, folky blues. Get your copy here.

Everythings better with some wine in the belly..

The great thing about the music that emanated from the 1960's is the sheer volume of bands who produced one 45 and then vanished from the musical landscape all together; A very good case in point being The Hush who came together for one session in 1968, (and as far as we know) 'Elephant Rider/Grey' was the only thing they ever put down on tape.
It's the blistering 'Grey' that we feature, if you listen closely you'll be able to spot the Sebadoh sample.

It depends, do you have access to horse semen?

More excellence from Mr Weatherall in the shape of his rework of Toddla T and Roots Manuva's 'Watch Me Dance'; He takes the original & shoves it through his own sonic blender, the results being a low slung piece of 7am tackle.
