Kids are people too. Worthless, incomplete people..

Mr Boxcutter's (1st name Barry) fourth album is out now on Planet Mu. It see's the Ulsterman on fine form, eschewing his more esoteric arrangements for something a little more conventional; Case in point being the marvelous 'Zabriskie Disco'. Get 'The Dissolve' here.

This has purple stuff inside, purple is a fruit..

Been meaning to feature this excellent compilation from Soul Jazz records for a little while now; 'Delta Swamp Rock is an interstate southern road-trip through the United States of America where country, rock and soul met at the crossroads - an exploration of the musical and cultural links between the cities of Memphis, Muscle Shoals and Nashville in the 1960s and 70s'.
Featuring the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cher, Link Wray and Bobbie Gentry amongst many others, this is the perfect accompaniment to any road trip you may be planning, whether it be Route 66 or the Manchester ring road.

Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I still get to kill something..

Cast your minds back to the year of 2007. Phone hacking was a mere blink in Rupert Murdoch's eye and an I pad was just a fancy name for a pirates eye patch.
This blog was in it's infancy and we were very much taken with SebastiAn and his form of mutilated funk. Time passed and so does taste. These days I find a lot of so called 'electro' just a bit too noisy. SebastiAn has finally got round to releasing his debut long player, and whilst all of it might not be quite up my alley, this most certainly is. 'Love In Motion' (Ft Mayer Hawthorne) is a massive P funk jam that sounds like Prince producing...well, Prince. 'Total' is out now on Ed Banger records.

She's in heat, she would eat your face off..

Many pretenders have trod the path blazed by Burial since he emerged back in 2006 with his very own brand of murky garage blues; One of the few acts who manage not to sound like a homage are Manchester's very own Holy Other. They have a new EP out on Tri Angle entitled 'With U', it's a beautifully futuristic blend of late night tales. Get your copy over at Boomkat.

You drive, I've got a car full of fox meat..

Very intriguing selection of edits arrived on Boomkat this AM via Baris K; He's snipped away at some of his favourite tracks to emanate from his home town of Istanbul in the 1970's. There are three volumes in total, we are featuring a track from Volume 1 entitled 'Ara Muzigi'. Full disco fire.
Pick up your copy here, it's out on Nublu Records.

Guess what the funk man is doing tomorrow?

If the sparkling British summer time has got you in the mood for a psychedelic adventure, let me be of assistance. Please follow these guidelines for spiritual nirvana;

+Grab the new record from The Advisory Circle then head out into your nearest wooded area (preferably blindfolded).

+Dose up on whatever magic potion most whets your whistle.

+Wait a moment or too and then slip 'As The Crow Flies' into your music playing device.

+Lie back and let the mind bending begin. If you are not writing your own religion within the hour, please contact Ghost Box for a full refund.

Couple of things to add here, make sure you take a compass with you (especially if you take the blindfolded option) and some sustenance (Packet of pork pies and a bottle of gin should suffice).

Everyone I know who skis is dead..

The debut long player from Italian triumvirate Clap Rules is in your local record emporium now; 'Golden Hands' contains the type of delicious discoid action that would have Metro Area looking worriedly over their shoulders (If they bothered to make any records).
From it here is the delightfully askew "Approccio". Get your copy here.

Always the Padawan never the Jedi..

Never really one to post up the obvious tunes, but then music blogging should be about the tunes you love. And I sure do love the Jacques Greene remake of Radiohead, so here it is.

The Whip: Wired Together

Manchester's very own melodic noise terrorists, The Whip, are back with new record 'Wired Together'; It's a full on sonic assault that will get you all hot under the collar. It's out in September on Southern Fried and as something of a precursor the band head out on a little jaunt that'll take in London, Glasgow & Manchester. What's more you can win the chance to have them play a gig in your very own front room, check the website for all the details.

Hit him in his handsome groin..

Headman returns with a resplendent version of Japan's 'Adolescent Sex'; It's his first release since last years '1923' long player, we feature the excellent Andy Blake (Dissident) live dub which channels the same type of analogue funk that those DFA types used to furnish us with on a regular basis. Get the EP here.

My eyes don't work, paint me a word picture..

Yacht appear back on the horizon this week with their splendid new opus 'Shangri-la'; It confirms their status (At least in my brain) as one of the most interesting pop bands currently in circulation, the record harnesses the sound of the DFA bunker with a smart lyrical bent. For example, check this rhyming couplet on 'Love in the Dark':

'I love you like a small town cop, I wanna smash your face in with a rock'

You also can't argue with a band that has it's own manifesto, here's a couple of them:

YACHT encourages the testing of ideas in the laboratory of your own nervous system.

YACHT believes “Free Wi Fi” is not an advertisement of services, but a political statement.

Yacht- Love in the Dark
