I just stole a baby's intellectual property..

Very special record to tell you about from Petrels; They have a new long player entitled 'Haeligewielle' out on Tartaruga records, if you can imagine Tim Hecker producing Sigur Ros then your half way there. A beautiful, brutal noise. You can listen to it over at Bandcamp.

I don't have enough credit to be talking about God..

This new Death in Vegas tune is quite the thing; A kraut-tastic blend of discordant acid lines with what sounds like Darth Vader on vox. Very interesting return from the band who have a new record entitled 'Trans-Love Energies' out in September.

Why do you have to throw a wet blanket on my dreams?

In this mixed up music blogging world it's very easy to get caught up in all the new releases pouring in; Spent the past few days with Ennio Morricone in my ear drums, and much better they are for it too. From the soundtrack to 'Vergogna Schifosi' here's 'Una Spiagga a Mezzogiorno'. Absolute amazeballs..

Atomized Part II

Our favorite cosmic Londoners are back with some sweet new sounds to share; Higamos Hogamos are Steve Webster & Toby Jenkins and together they create a fantastic psychedelic fanfare. We've had them on these pages before, this time we feature their new release 'Atomized Pt II' which is available now through their Bandcamp page.
Here we feature 'The Singularity' described thus:

'My Travel/ The Singularity' could be an imagined musical meeting between 'Can' and 'Tangerine Dream'.

You look hot enough to cook a pizza on..

A fine new release from Om Unit to tell you about today; 'The Timps' EP is out now on the excellent Civil Music, we're gonna feature the smart rework from Salva; Arpeggiated synths exploding allover the place, watch out for the subs too.

I don't like to talk about money. But I have exactly ten million dollars..

If your missing a little psychedelic dirge from your life, let Seattle's Jetman Jet Team be of assistance; They have three tracks available to download from their bandcamp page, all showcasing the type of shoegazey squall that gets us very excited.

Day Of Anger

At the tender age of 24, Mondkopf has already forged quite a reputation for himself. His new EP 'Day Of Anger' is ready to drop in May, you can order the CDR only release via Fool House. You can also listen to the release on Soundcloud.
As an extra bonus, check out the man's live show; It'll be coming to a town near you when second long player 'Rising Doom' comes out in September of this year.

It's not sweat. It's my aura glistening..

After a slow start, 2011 has kicked in (musically speaking) with an absolute bonanza of decent releases; Take the newie from In Flagranti for example, the duo's second long player is a glorious trip through the muckiest of discotheque's. Check the New York swagger of 'Hollow Discourse', pick up your copy of the EP that precedes the LP here.

We're Recreating a Faux Pas..

Fantastic new record out this week from Dave Husiman in his 2562 guise; 'Fever' follows on from previous long players 'Aerial' & 'Unbalance', with production values of the highest order.
Strict parameters have been imposed on the construction of 'Fever', with every sound (hat/kick/lick) used being taken from a disco record.

'This guy has found a special balance of soul-tugging swing and technical dexterity which deserves your undivided attentions'

Grab 'Fever' here.

LCD: In Memoriam

LCD bowed out at the weekend after 10 years and three long players. James Murphy led the band through a near four hour show at Madison Square Gardens, which covered pretty much everything they have ever done.
LCD have probably been my band of the last decade; debut single 'Losing My Edge' was a near permanent fixture on my turntable for a year or so, my then housemate Ste and I would listen to it most mornings before leaving the house. A call to arms. (I remember initially being put off by the cover, I thought he looked like one of the Audio Bullies).
The live experience was something else; They tore the roof off the sucka on every occasion (Though weirdly, this didn't translate at festivals. Maybe cos they have no roof). I remember them finishing one show at Manchester's Ritz with a barnstorming cover of Harry Nilsson's 'Jump Into The Fire', in the cacophony of drums and lights I swore that Murphy was some sort of God (N.B. I was somewhat 'altered' at the time)

James Murphy 2007:
"Nobody can play live like us," he insists disgustedly. "Nobody tries. And there are more talented people that should be better. That's what I take exception to. I think it's insulting. It's like coming into the ring out of shape. Don't fucking come into the ring out of shape; it's disrespectful. Don't come play a show with us and bring your B-game and phone it in and pose, pull a whole bunch of rock bullshit moves and emote and shit like that with us because I'll fucking punch you in the face. That's bullshit."

Pretty much sums it up; if your in a band don't leave anything behind. Or else what's the fucking point?
I'm actually pretty pleased that LCD are calling it a day. Bands shouldn't go on for ever & ever. Last years interview with Clash magazine says it all:

When I was 30 I promised myself that I’d be out by 40 and I’m 40 now so. Any more than this and I’d start feeling like a professional. Like, what are the goals? A lot of the songs that I’ve written, that I like are as good as I’m going to do at capturing that specific thing. I’m not saying that other people can’t do better but of capturing the things most important to me I feel I’m at a point where I’m doing that, I’ve done that and I don’t want to repeat myself. So, what becomes the next goal? Being bigger? It’s just not all that interesting. The next goal becomes about making more money or it’s just not all that interesting.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr Murphy on two occasions; The first time was after their first show at Manchester Academy 2. He hung about on the stage after they finished and as I walked towards him I was desperately racking my brain, trying to think of something cool to say. Unfortunately the first thing that came to mind was "My mates think I look a bit like you, can I get a picture with you please?"
The second time was at the Rockness festival in Inverness; Murphy & Pat Mahoney were DJing, I had been spiralling round the Highlands for many hours and was suitability oiled. Determined to make up for my previous faux pas I said the only thing someone in my condition could say; "Would you like some nitrous oxide?" For the record he was a very nice chap.

I'm sure we'll be hearing some new stuff in whatever guise pretty soon (Maybe some more DFA remixes?). Loads more on LCD over at Pitchfork.

Politics is the entertainment branch of industry..

Marc Riley has been on rare form this week, a superb mixture of old and new featuring the likes of Deerhunter (Amazeballs session), The Fall, Cabaret Voltaire, Diana Ross & The Supremes and many more. Radio broadcasting at it's finest;
Last nights program opened with Frank Zappa's 'Trouble Every Day' from his amazing 'Freak Out!' long player. This is the voice of your conscience, baby..
