A Love From Outerspace..

Some tasty mixes flying about at the moment; This month has seen a couple of gentle blends from Mr Weatherall & Optimo, here's another excellent selection from the Hardway Bros. The mix is entitled 'A Love From Innerspace' and is described thus:

'It’s an exploratory incision into the body of 80-120 BPM music, holding a hypnotic groove and delving into pyschedelia, the good way'

Give your ears a treat over at El Diablo's Social Club, from the mix here is Ronny & Renzo with a slow-mo bleep groove.

I'm telling you, there's no fate anymore. There's just television..

Heard Merry Clayton's blistering version of 'Gimme Shelter' on the wireless over the weekend. Thought I'd alert your ears to it if you are not already familiar. From the LP of the same name. C'est magnifique.

Introducing: T.O.Y.S.

More hot newness for 2011 (sorry) in the shape of T.O.Y.S, made up of various members of Leeds's Indie glitterati (Downdime, The Acutes and The Manhattan Love Suicides). Head over to Soundcloud to get the full scoop, here's a little morsel in the shape of 'Uptight'; Massive kraut grooves ahoy. The vox have a touch of the Curtis's about them too. Aces.

Trish Keenan RIP

Some very sad news with the death of Trish Keenan. Here's the full statement from Warp:

"It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care.

Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time.

This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly - a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace."

Your an Omnishambles..

More from the arse end of 2010. Shackleton recently launched new label 'Woe To The Septic Heart' with a couple of his own productions. 'Man On A String Part 1 & 2' is out now, from it here's 'Bastard Spirit' which sounds like some sort of utopian nightmare. In a good way.

Bring Me The Head Of Andy Garcia. I Don't Like His Head..

The problem I have with these end of year lists (Specifically my end of year lists) is that there's always stuff that falls through the cracks. Take Quest's 'Smooth Skin' for example, a beautifully slow piece of house-step with maximum swagger. Awesome-ness.

How Do I Look? Like a Bag Of Shit With a Wig On..

A very happy new year to one and all. Getting back into the swing of things with a few bits from the end of 2010. I was sent a most enjoyable version of Harmonia's 'Watussi' by Stockholm artist Elias Krantz, it's part of a compilation curated by Swedish label Airwaves that pays homage to Kraut leg-end Micheal Rother. Mr Krantz is busy preparing his second long player which should be with us soon. More details too follow..

Gary War also slipped out a stunning EP towards the end of last year, an all out sonic blast of (old school) electro. You can pick it up here.
