Yes, I remember watching you from the petrified audience..

Mock and Toof's debut 'Tuning Echoes' is a rather jaunty summer disco ride. The latest single from it is a split release: 'Suppress Your Feelings/Shoeshine Boogie' is out this week and features remixes from Ray Mang and this rubbery rejiggle from Dan Lissvik. Get it.

A splendid remix from Mr Caribou in the shape of this dark techoid roller for Oh No Ono. Should be big all summer long.

Not sure how I missed this at the time, Matias Aguayo's 'Minimal' is phenomenal. Upping the ante even further is DJ Koze's buttery disco version. Total Amazeballs. You can pick up the release here.

I Am Kloot: Manchester Academy 3. June 16th 2010.

“It’s only in the context of the bleakness and the quite filthy passion at the core of us, that when we present something that naïve and that simple that it really gets its charm and finds its beauty." - John Bramwell. Lead singer. I Am Kloot.

I Am Kloot have long been hometown heroes. Best kept secrets. Much loved. There have been whisperings about their new record for over a year now. Helmed by Guy Garvey & Craig Potter it’s generally hoped that fifth studio album, ‘Sky at Night’, finally sees Kloot ‘Do an Elbow’ (Gain huge commercial success after years of Indie circuit toil). So, will they?
All the signs are good

• Record produced by International rock stars: Check
• Video featuring International film star: Check
• New songs augmented by Orchestra’s, Choirs and Harps: Check

This is Manchester’s first look at the all new Kloot, complete with violinists and saxophonists. The crowd is raucous from the outset. The first single ‘Northern Skies’ is greeted like an old friend, the audience already singing back the lyrics. The first half of the show is made up of the new long player: ‘Lately’ has huge dynamics, very reminiscent of Joe Cocker’s version of ‘Get by with a little help from my friends’. John Bramwell’s lyrical bent is a sharp as ever: “We don’t have to stay, with these people whose idea’s are just what other people say” he scolds during ‘Fingerprints’. Bramwell is quite the front man, his expression revealing pain, loss, anger and joy all in the space of minutes. He’s also quite the comedian; expertly dealing with the almost constant heckling throughout the show (Hecklers must be the same people who leave You tube comments. I.E Knobheads).
The first half comes to an end with ‘Radiation’ a huge, pulsing, epic groove. Should blow the roof off many a festival tent this summer. At this point the additional musicians leave the fray and we are left with the core members of the Kloot. They run through their hefty back catalogue, treating the baying masses to ‘Storm Warning’, ‘Morning Rain’, ‘Over My Shoulder’ & ‘To You’, each received with the kind of fervour that accompanies a World cup victory. After nearly two hours the humble trio leave the stage and slip off into the sweaty night air.
So, will the Kloot follow in the footsteps of their pals Elbow? Will they be performing with the Halle orchestra in 18 months time? It’s probably an unfair comparison. In this topsy turvey age, predicting success for any band is hard. Understanding the success of some bands is even harder. But at a time when there is a real dearth of good guitar bands, I Am Kloot stand head and shoulders above many of their contemporaries. Proper Northern Soul.

‘My how things change…… yet somehow they stay the same..’

I don't care much about music. What I like is sounds..

The Hundred in the Hands unleash their debut EP for Warp records: The NYC collective offer up six trax's of minimal disco nourishment. They seem to have listened to all the right things:

"We came together when we bonded playing one another tracks. We were driving across the U.S. listening to Moroder/Moulton style disco; French House & minimal techno; Post-Punk favorites like Young Marble Giants, Wire, The Cure & New Order; Black Star, Dilla, De La Soul vintage hip-hop; 60’s mod, garage & girl groups and loads of Studio 1/Trojan era ska & dub."

I Left My Brains Down In Africa..

According to Mary Anne Hobbs, The Flying Lotus "Is the Hendrix of our generation". What does that make Actress then? The Dylan? Davis? Mann?
Both these mavericks have new motorized long players to batter your ears with, each listen revealing something different. Fly Lo's 'Cosmogramma' is out now and in the midst of all the mayhem is surely the club track of the year: 'Do The Astral Plane'.

Actresses 'Splazsh' is out this week, he is also the subject of this weeks 14 tracks:

"These 14 tracks dip into his small but brilliantly crafted catalogue, touching on influences from Terrence Dixon to Autechre, Prince to Drexciya and much further beyond. Cunningham's music perfectly defines the mongrel aesthetic typical to the UK, soaking up styles and sub-genres with murkily fluid arrangements and a proper hi-tek soulboy's sense of finesse. And this is no doubt just the beginning... "

Is that a little swan you just made? No, it was a B-52..

Optimo were the subject of our last mix tape, it would be very remiss not to mention their latest mix for Fabric:

'Fabric 52: Optimo (Espacio)' rises up to the usual Optimo challenge, where the notion of genre is forever redefined and all conventions snubbed; an escapist adventure of sounds fuelled solely by the pair's inherent musicality and anarchist spirit. With blends so effortlessly perfect, it's near impossible to tell where one track ends and the other begins, the mix gallantly stands out as a seamless collection of mixing mastery'

Included in the mix are tracks from Spencer Parker, Locussolus & Basic Channel amongst others. Get it.

HEALTH are preparing their second 'Disco' release, imaginatively 'Disco 2'. The likes of Tobacco, Gold Panda and Salem get their paws all over the 'Get Color' LP. My fave is this rework from the Blondes, a slow, meandering, spacey chug. They also did their live thing on Beats in Space recently, head on over.
