Can't resist slipping in the newie from Richard Hawley, a bewitching, Sinatra-esque sonnet. New album 'Truelove's Gutter' is out mid September.

You foul, venereal disease carrying, street walking whore..

If you feel your missing a little boy/girl shoegazeysoulminimalpop action in your lives, get a hold of the debut album from The XX. A beautiful, wistful & downright inspiring entree. Get it here.

There's a very good mix over on Allez-Allez from South East London's resident bird fanciers, Cage & Aviary. It kicks off with a track that I'd forgotten all about, Mr Fingers 'Stars'. Still sounds very fresh to these ears. Pick up the mix here.

It's the first time I've seen orange juice labeled "freshly killed"..

Gave the briefest of mentions to the Purple Brain's recent mix for igetrvng, it deserves much more than that. A solid gold selection that takes in abandoned psych, mutant disco and freaky soul. A collection that'll soon become your new favourite tunes. The CD also comes with a 7" with a couple of smart edits. Buy it here.

Another compilation that's worthy of your attention is the new Horse Meat Disco LP. If you don't like disco then this is probably not for you. If you do like disco then this is definitely for you, 16 tracks that'll keep your glitterball twirling for many a hour. Get it here.

Get away from me before I get physically emotional..

Volcano Choir is a collaboration between Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) & Collections of Colonies of Bees. Their debut LP 'Unmap' is due mid-September on Jagjaguwar records. First track 'Island, IS' made its way onto the internet this week, here's what the press release had to say about the making of the track:
“Island, IS” is “centrally constructed around the multi-layered loops and microsecond cuts by guitarist Chris Roseanu. Justin, responsible for all of Volcano Choir’s vocals, crafted consonant harmonies. Not initially concerned with lyrics, the words that came from the sounds were secondary, but ended up a tremendously meaningful stream-of-consciousness."
I'll give a pound to the first blogger to write 'Like Four Tet producing Bon Iver in a bath..' or some similar type of bullshit.

Clarks new record 'Totems Flare' is in your local record emporium now. It's his most accessible release to date and features the still massive 'Growls Garden' (hear this on a funktion 1 for complete sonic gratification). Not to worry though Warp fans, there's still plenty of twists to keep you interested:

You wanna see a picture of a guy with elephantitis of the nuts? It's pretty tasty..

John Dahlback recently put out 'Greatest Hug's', a welcome round up of the prolific producers Hug output. All killer no filler, from it here's the very canny 'The Platform'. You can purchase the long player here.

On a similar tip here's Rebotini's 'Spirit of Boogie' from the very overlooked 'Music Components' LP. One of the better dance records of the past 12 months or so. Buy it.

Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?

Bumrocks used to be an excellent place to pick up some weird & wonderful tunes- It's currently on hiatus at the moment (Although you can pick up a superb Purple Brain mix over at igetrvng). It's also well worth tracking down their compilation entitled 'El Bum', which contains many rare disco gems.

Posted up Hot Chocolate's 'Heaven's in the Back Seat of my Cadillac' a while ago, started to think it could do with a little edit. After a little hunting about I discovered that The Revenge had already done one, and it's very good. So here it is:

Quiet, will you? The man is trying to be dull..

THE MOTHER.FUCKING GASLAMP KILLER™ is back with a new EP on Fly Lo's Brainfeeder imprint: "The Gaslamp Killer experiments with freak-out sound effects and analog delays, married with analog synth lines provided by close friend and collaborator Computer Jay. The result is a truly remarkable audio experience, meshing perfectly with the unclassifiable sonic aesthetic of Brainfeeder."
From it here's 'Birthday Music', a 3 minute psychedelic meltdown..

The Laughing Windows
also come armed with a heavy blurb: "Like the best psyche folk, it is music that exudes a sense of bizarre possibility; a world in which Ken Loach meets Damo Suzuki, where The Beta Band collide with Dario Argento. The results are irresistibly fascinating."
You can't argue with that, you can buy the wax here or you can get it digitally here.

All it needs is a little salt.... pepper.... mustard, catchup, sauce, flavour.

Lot of new goodies around this week: How long before Kanye et al are hijacking Mount Kimbie's space age beats? Not very fucking long if you ask me. Their new EP 'Sketch in Glass' is on the shelves and it's well boss. Futuristic lullabies. Get on it.

Antony & the Johnsons new single 'Aeon' is out now, it contains a cover of Beyonce's 'Crazy in Love'. Who'd have thought that the party jam of the decade could sound so mournful? Utterly wonderful. Bit miffed that they left out the 'Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no' bit though..
