There always comes a time during a late night/early morning when I'll always seek this last tune out. Off the sparkling 'Everything Everything Live' here's 'Rez/Cowgirl'. Still sends a shiver down me timber every time I hear it:

Hows that for a slice of fried gold?

The good folks at Rough trade have given us the scoop on the new Jeffrey Lewis long player, 'Em Are I' which is released today in the UK. As per usual, it's beautifully illustrated by Jeff himself and the record features guest appearances from Herman Dune & J Mascis. Loads of European & US dates lined up, if your anywhere near the Leeds area be sure to catch his show at the Hyde Park Picture house with the mighty Downdime supporting.

'Staring at a clock that I unplugged an hour ago'. Delightful ode to slackdom from {{{Sunset}}}.

There's a Fire on the Futon..

A couple of tunes for all the Chickenheads out there: Jamie Vexd's new EP is BIG. 3 heavy, heavy cuts that'll make you want to purchase a G reg Orion Ghia, stick in as many bass-bins as you can muster & go cruisin' with your blud's.

Jamie Vexd- Radiant Industry (Download)

Out on Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder label is the new record from Ras G & The Afrikan Space Program. Comparison's with the label owner's output will undoubtedly be made, however Ras G's material is a little more organic & just a tad more gracious. Perfect for late night nodding.

We just had a near-life experience fellas..

And we're back- I meant to post this tune up before the Easter break, think I made the same tenuous link last year. Any excuse to post the 13th Floor Elevators, from 'Easter Everywhere' here's 'Nobody to Love'.

13th Floor Elevators- Nobody to Love (Download)

If you've got some spare dollars, head on over to Boomkat & pick up a couple of excellent albums that have just been made available digitally for the first time. Sixto Rodriguez made his seminal 'Cold Fact' LP at the end of the sixties & then promptly disappeared. He resurfaced in 1996 & thanks to David Holmes excellent 'Come Get It I Got It' compilation, his work reached a whole new audience. You'll know 'Sugarman' I'm sure, check the Fuzz bass on this:

Sixto Rodriguez- Only Good for Conversation (Download)

'Alright, my name's Gary.
Let's go, it's beat time, it's hop time, it's monk time now!
You know we don't like the army.
What army?
Who cares what army?
Why do you kill all those kids over there in Vietnam?
Mad Viet Cong.
My brother died in Vietnam!
James Bond, who was he?
Stop it, stop it, I don't like it!
It's too loud for my ears.
Pussy galore's comin' down and we like it.
We don't like the atomic bomb.
Stop it, stop it, I don't like it . . . stop it!
What's your meaning Larry?
Ahh, you think like I think!
You're a monk, I'm a monk, we're all monks!
Dave, Larry, Eddie, Roger, everybody, let's go!
It's beat time, it's hop time, it's monk time now!'

Pick up 'Black Monk Time' & 'The Early Years' ASAP.

You met me at a very strange time in my life..

So how's your 09 been so far? Musically speaking there's been some corking records from Animal Collective, Downdime, Bill Callahan & Dan Deacon but I'm feeling a little underwhelmed. Maybe it's this age of instant gratification, but I want great new music & I want it NOW. Sorry about that, not sure what came over me...
Wooden Shjips new long player is definitely one for the good pile. Many records are given the Kraut label, 'Dos' sounds like it fell out of Neu's speeding Mercedes somewhere near Dusseldorf circa 1974. It's Superbloodyduper, catch them on tour in the US & Europe.

Wooden Shjips- For So Long (Download)

In Flagranti have just released their new album 'Brash & Vulgar'. It mutates through clubland taking in sex, disco, dirt, distortion & just a little humour (Not necessarily in that order). They've also got a load of dates coming up, check the Myspace for details. Get the record here.

Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken..

Prins Thomas & Lindstrom are back with their second long player, imaginatively entitled 'II'. It's a bit spacier, bit kraut-ier, than their debut & will be a permanent fixture on your summer playlist. The record is due for release in Mid-May on Eskimo recordings.

Lindstrom & Prins Thomas- Rothaus (Download)

Here we go Magic's self titled debut suffer's from that most modern of phenomena's; Sounds great on your stereo, not so great on your Ipod. Listen to it loud then to fully appreciate the delicate texture's on this intimate recording. Catch them on tour with Grizzly Bear throughout June (Stateside only unfortunately)

Here we go Magic- I Just Want to See you Underwater (Download)
