Went to the My Bloody Valentine show on Saturday night (Cheers lovely Liz): Full on Audio & Visual assault. The last 20 minutes are one hell of an experience, like standing inside a giant kaleidoscope powered by 12 jet engines.

My Bloody Valentine- Only Shallow (Z Share) (YSI)

Very glad to see that Jay-Z was a hit at Glasto- All the furore surrounding his appearance was well over the top, especially coming from someone like Noel Gallagher. Oasis's recent live performances have been nothing short of turgid. Here's the Dangermouse bootleg of '99 Problems':

Jay-Z- 99 Problems (Z Share) (YSI)

NY's Bush Tetras return with a new record of sorts: 'Very, Very, Happy' features 6 new songs, live tracks and a cover of Iggy's 'Sister Midnight'. You can buy the album here.

These are hard times for dreamers..

You down with The Cool Kids? We certainly are. So are XL who've just snapped them up. 'The Bake Sale' is the Chicago duo's debut offering and is slated for release in July. Finally, some decent Hip Hop:

Women have their self titled long player ready to roll: Recorded in various open spaces on ghetto blasters & old tape machines, it combines the rhythmic drone of the Velvets with the spacious harmonies of Grizzly Bear. A very grand entrance. I tried to find a Myspace link, but typing "Women" into google brings some very different results..

Women- Upstairs (Z Share) (YSI)

King Khan & the Shrines are a 12 piece psychedelic, soul explosion: "Sexual voodoo, secret societies and hallucinogenic transcendence all conspire over rampant garage-psych riffs and Muscle Shoals horns with the blue-eyed tear drops and desperate wail of King Khan testifying like a true motherfucker". Blimey. They are touring throughout the US this summer, check the Myspace for details.

King Khan & The Shrines- Torture (Z Share) (YSI)

Have a good weekend.

'Shrinking Moon for You' is just relentless:

A couple of tunes that we've already featured on the blog that have recently received fine remixes: Miss Kittin's 'Grace' has been given an industrial, dub heavy Tech refix by Sleeparchive. Scary stuff:

Miss Kittin- Grace (Sleeparchive Remix) (Z Share) (YSI)

Bot'Ox's 'Babylon by Car' has been remixed by Richard Sen (Padded Cell), who adds handclaps, open hi hats & Cosmic vibes. Very pleasant. Further remixes come from Invisible Scum & Discodeine.

It's split into 2 halves, the first side covers the beats whilst the second is a more ambient affair. Grab it from your local record store now.

Some things don't change: Another year, another line up, another Fall record. 'Imperial Wax Solvent' is the 27th Fall LP: It even made it into the pop charts (35)..

The Fall- Alton Towers (Z Share) (YSI)

A couple of points of interest: Head over to Fact and grab a new mix from them DFA fella's. Lots of juicy new cuts.

Good Evening Parents, Tonight I'm Gonna Take you On a Tour..

The latest installment in the Fabric series is put together by Simian Mobile Disco: It's a splendid mix that takes in dancefloor classics from the likes of Metro Area, Green Velvet & Plastikman and also features new cuts from the likes of Discodeine, Hercules & Love Affair and The Sisters of Transistor. Its a great antidote to the raft of mixes that slam together 50 or 60 tracks an hour, Lots of blends where the incoming & outgoing tune feed off each other:

“We dug through a lot of stuff that’s not very current. With a lot of mix CDs, you do them and you know it’s just going to go out and do its thing, but we always think a fabric mix is something that sticks around a lot longer. We weren’t aiming to make it the most current mix of tunes; of course there will be a few new things but a lot of it is us digging back into our record collections, just the stuff that people may have forgotten about, or that went overlooked.”

The launch party is on Friday August 1st where they'll have Egyptian Lovers & The Sisters of Transistors playing live. More guests TBC. A couple of tunes from the Mix:

The Sisters of Transistors- The Don (Z Share) (YSI)

Perc & Fractal- Up (Perc Mix) (Z Share) (YSI)

Even features a little Moondog too: Not this one tho.

The Future's....?

Apologies for the lack of posting: If you ever think about getting Orange Broadband, Punch yourself in the face repeatedly until the thought goes away. Utter Bastards.
Some tunes: Paul Kalkbrenner's 'Altes Kamuffel' is triumphant slice of Minimalism. Sometimes all you really need are two notes. Kalkbrenner's extensive back catalogue is available via Bleep.

Paul Kalkbrenner- Altes Kamuffel (Z Share) (YSI)

Following on from his recent E.P, Micah P. Hinson is back with a new LP: 'The Red Empire Orchestra' is out Mid-July on Full Time Hobby. 'I Keep Having These Dreams' sounds like it was written for specifically for Shane Meadows next project..

Micah P. Hinson- I Keep Having These Dreams (Z Share) (YSI)

Mashmakhan's 'Afraid of losing You' is one of a number of top cuts available on the 'Cherry Stones Hidden Charms' compilation from a few years back: It contains shaky Pyschfunk oddities from the likes of Ennio Morricone, Marsha Hunt & Sonny Bono with Cher. An excellent purchase.

Mashmakhan- Afraid of Losing You (Z Share) (YSI)

He called me a baboon, he thinks I'm his wife..

DC Recordings are preparing to release the second in their 'Death Before Distemper' series: 'Revenge of the Iron Ferret' compiles (mostly unreleased) tracks from existing DC recordings All-Stars Emperor Machine, Padded Cell, Kelpe & The Oscillation & also features tunes from Bot'Ox + And the Lefthanded. It's a glorious trip through some of the most interesting & downright marvelous Dance music currently in circulation. The Muscleheads track is a great example of the high standards this collection sets: 'Phosphorescence' Starts off all chuggy disco before becoming engulfed by an exploding synth line: The two are split up before the synth comes back for a bit more action: find out who wins this argument:

Muscleheads- Phosphorescence (Z Share) (YSI)

To celebrate this release DC Recordings are having a bit of a doo: On Saturday 21st June they've got Emperor Machine playing for the first time ever Live, Padded Cell Live, Kelpe Live + DJ sets from Depth Charge, Muscleheads and many others. Will be a very splendid evening. You can get your tickets here.

A couple of Rip-roaring tunes to send you off into the weekend: From Peter Cook & Dudley Moore's 'Bedazzled'. Moore writes the tunes, Cook 'sings'. 'You fill me with inertia..'

Yes sir, it's true. This man is some kind of rodent, I don't know which...

A new 12 is on the way from Parisian duo Discodeine on Dirty: 'Joystick' is an electro throwback with a nagging keyboard refrain that kinda reminds me of a Sean Paul song. Don't let that put you off tho. The 12" also features a Tomboy remix of 'Joystick' & extra track 'Homo-Compatible'. They are now starting to do some live shows, catch them at Sonar amongst other festies. A Long Player is due later in the year.

Discodeine- Joystick (Z Share) (YSI)

Is your life missing a little Baroque? How about harmony? What about a smidgen of Pop? If your answer to each question is yes, get yourself down to a Fleet Foxes show quick smart. A healthy dose of all three is administered. The latest in a seemingly never ending line of US bands who specialize in Harmonic excellence: Their self titled debut is out now on Sub Pop.

Fleet Foxes- White Winter Hymnal (Z Share) (YSI)

Groep 1850 were arguably the finest psychedelic rock band to come out of The Netherlands. Active during the late 60's/early 70's, they released three albums- I've no idea how this tune found it's way onto my computer, but it contains Jazz Flute and a guitar solo that sounds a lot like 'Freire Jacques'. A winning combo in anyones book.

Look at it: Actual Words..

Cut up king Steinski is the subject of a new retrospective on Illegal Art. It features 2 CD's, the first one contains 14 Double Dee & Steinski joints and the second is the separate parts to an excellent Steinski mix, 'Nothing to Fear". You'll have been doing Headspins to Lessons 1,2 & 3 at your local Hip-Hop Rave for years now. Stone Cold Classics. From CD1 here's 'It's Up to You'

Steinski- It's Up to You (Television Mix) (Z Share) (YSI)

From Disc 2 here's 'The ID'. If anyone can tell me the female vocalist on this tune I'd be very grateful. Sounds like her out of Moloko. Been bugging me for years..

Steinski- The ID (Small World Mix) (Z Share)

Yeasayer slipped right under this Blogs radar- Debut 'All Hour Cymbals' was thrust into the world at the end of last year. Maybe it makes more sense in the Sunshine. '2080' is an extremely palatable summer sing-a-long: Lots of Lindsay Buckingham-ism's on display. They seem to be playing every festival going, run along to their Myspace for details.

Any of you lot put a man in the cupboard?

Black Devil Disco Club wheel out their open Hi-Hat for (allegedly) the last time on new record 'Eight oh Eight'. It's coming out on Lo recordings & remixes have been commissioned from Hercules & Love Affair and Radio Slave amongst others. You know the score by now: Tch, Tch, Tch, Tch. Doo doo dah doo doo Wooh. Morbid Disco. Lovely:

Black Devil Disco Club- For Hoped (Z Share) (YSI)

Gary Davis's tres-influential 'The Professor Here' has recently been rebooted by Greg Wilson & San Francisco's 40 Thieves, who turn in a smooth, subby rework with an extra long intro. Very handy if your one of them DJ types. It's available digitally via Juno's extra good download store.

Gary Davis- The Professor Here (40 Thieves Remix) (Link removed by request)

Goat Dance: Nothing to do with Vernon Kay, this DubbyDisco treat came out last year (An aeon in Dance music terms) and is an alter ego of Dean Meredith, him out of Chicken Lips. Seems to be working through the farmyard with his aliases..

Have a nice Weekend.

Yes, I was really getting tired of having fun all the time..

We are the Seahorses: Don't worry, there isn't an overblown guitar solo in sight with these chaps. Imagine Dan Deacon being let loose in Daft Punks pyramid:

Third record in just over 12 months from Bradford Cox- Following on from the sublime Atlas Sound release, Deerhunter's 2nd LP 'Microcastle' is due in record stores soon. It's a lither, more focused affair than 'Cryptograms' which lets the songs speak for themselves. Is there any current artist as prolific & consistent as Cox? Check out the Deerhunter blog if you haven't already done so. Here is the Pixie-esque 'Saved by Old times'.

Deerhunter- Saved by old Times (Z Share) (YSI)

Au are preparing to release debut 'Verbs' later this month: if Animal Collective had actually gone to Sunday school this is how they would have (almost certainly) turned out. gallons of elegant, celestial harmonies on show here. They have a few dates with Deerhoof later in the year, check their Myspace page for details.

This floor is made for dancin', you can tell by the lights..

2562's debut release 'Aerial' has been attracting Burial sized attention from the Dubstep community. And it certainly delivers: 10 tracks expertly produced that oscillates between Dub, 2-step & techno. Album opener 'Redux' is heavy on the Skank:

2562- Redux (Z Share) (YSI)

Benga's 'Diary of an Afro Warrior' will be all over the end of year lists: It's one of the most accessible Dubstep releases to date, fusing many genres to form one pulsating listen. Check the Man live. This is Club favorite 'Night' in collaboration with Coki.

Benga Ft Coki- Night (Z Share) (YSI)

Ital Tek has just unleashed 'Cyclical' via Planet Mu records- 'Bloodline' has been reeking havoc on dancefloors all year long, but the rest of the album is a much more melodic affair, making 'Cyclical' one of the prettier Dubstep records you'll here. Album closer 'Deep Pools' sounds like it's swiped the Piano line from Radioheads 'Pyramid Song'.

Ital Tek- Deep Pools (Z Share) (YSI)
