Cats in Paris are just about my favorite of the new breed of Manchester bands. Their schizophrenic arrangements take in a number of different influences that defy categorization. Think a Proggy Talking Heads taking a bath with Muse and your still nowhere close. Check them out live- Loads of good, solid Freak outs. Ooh, I like a Nice Dance..

This sounds really good. Is this Us?


















MGMT's paean to the joys of youthdom, 'Time to pretend', has been the subject of a few illicit remixes & bootlegs. This one from Violens Frontman Jorge Elbrecht knocks them all for 6: Sounds like MGMT jamming with Hot Chip & Motorhead. All in 4 and a half minutes. Now that's what i call a remix..

A new track has appeared in Teeth Mountain's Myspace player: '13 Plus Harsh Tanz' is all twisted cello's & spiraling guitars underpinned by their now trademark percussive drone. She's ignoring me. Of course, she's ignoring me. I sent her a swastika..















Think i must have an aversion to bands with 'Hoof' in their name. Was very slow on the uptake with Deerhoof, now i've gone & missed the boat with Chrome Hoof. Which means i've been missing out on progdisco anthems like 'Tonyte' for far too long. Time to put that right..

A first burst of Summer across the North West these last couple of days: Time to put down the tweed & break out the summer threads. The final tune of the week comes from one of the most interesting & down right amazing albums of the year so far: Indian Jewelry's new album 'Free Gold!' sounds like The Brian Jonestown Massacre produced by Trent Reznor or The Doors produced by Soulwax. One of the most original long players i've heard in a long time, they are on tour in the US throughout May. Lord knows what they do live... It's available to purchase here.
