Yorkshire is a place. Yorkshire is a state of mind..

Sometimes all you really need is a good percussive drone: Teeth Mountain hail from Baltimore & sound bloody marvelous, a bit like Can stuck in a Porta Loo with the Velvet Underground. No releases as yet but they have four tracks in their Myspace player that are available to download. Can't wait for the album.

Teeth Mountain- Keinsein (Z Share) (YSI)

A busy week for Warp as hot on the heels of Clarks's record comes the newie from Autechre entitled 'Quaristice'. A blitz of sound on first listen, apart from 'Altibzz'. I would put up a link to their Myspace page, but it would only hurt your eyes. You can get the album at Bleep.

Autechre- Altibzz (Z Share) (YSI)

Beck's Odelay gets the deluxe reissue treatment- You get the original album + a second disc with B-sides, remixes & rarities. It also features new artwork & some sleeve notes from Thurston Moore. Still sounds fab:

I never thought I was wasted, but I probably was..

Kelpe has a new long player lined up: Ex-Aquarium is released on the 25th Feb & it's a nice mixture of live instrumentation & programmed beats. If your pining for the return of Four Tet or Boards then try Kelpe for size. 'Shipwreck Glue' is a mid-tempo gem, with an awesome bassline & table tennis percussion. Kelpe's tunes are available to buy digitally from Bleep.

Kelpe- Shipwreck Glue (Z Share) (YSI)

Stars of the Lid's latest offering is just beautiful- It's probably best to listen to the whole thing in one sitting to get the full effect, but if you haven't heard them yet here is a little taste. The album 'And their Refinement of the Decline' is available here.

Stars of the Lid- A meaningful moment through a meaningless process (Z Share) (YSI)

Chris Clark's new record is on the streets today- Recorded in his home studio, 'Turning Dragon' picks up were the 'Throttle Promoter' E.P left off & is aimed squarely at a frantic dancefloor. Naturally, you can buy it from Bleep:

I'm not saying goodbye, I don't feel like it..

Dubstep currently has two darlings: Burial is the sound of the city, Skream is the sound of the dancefloor. Skreamizm Vol 4 is on the shelves now & features the bleep heavy '2D'. Big.

Skream- 2D (Z Share) (YSI)

Recently got my hands on some Warsaw recordings & it features an early version of 'No Love Lost'. With added synth. Take a peek:

Warsaw- No Love Lost (Z Share) (YSI)

And because it's Friday here's something to tap your foot too: Stereolab give it plenty of beans on 'French Disko'. Excellent.

I'm not Fucking Bono you know..

The DFA- It's just a fad ain't it? They keep the quality high with the release of 'Hercules Theme' from Hercules & Love affair. It makes you want to go to 1976 as quickly as possible..

Hercules & Love Affair- Hercules Theme (Z Share) (YSI)

The new Hot Chip long player is on the way- It obviously contains a lot of tracks to move your feet, but i thought i'd post up the album closer which is lovely. Also has a secret bit on the end.

Hot Chip- In the Privacy of Our Love (Z Share) (YSI)

Chloe's 'The Waiting Room' came out late last year on the Kill the DJ imprint. Its a great collection of wobbly dancefloor ballads. You can get it here.

Very little to report at the moment so here is a couple of tunes for the weekend: Mentioned Akufen in the previous post, His 'Train to Barcelona' is a dazzling slice of electronica.

Akufen- Train to Barcelona (Z Share) (YSI)

The third in the Disco not Disco series has just been released & it features tracks from Vivien Goldman, Shriekback & Material amongst others. The second in the series contained this well worn electro nugget from Laidback. "If you want to be rich, you've got to be a bitch". Amen to that.

Laidback- White Horse (Z Share) (YSI)

Have a Good weekend.

I've been re-visiting Kieran Hebdens DJ Kicks compilation recently- It's a great mix which takes in Curtis Mayfield, Stereolab, Akufen, Cyclops (Look out for their new stuff on DFA) and Animal Collective amongst others: Here's a couple of tracks from it, you can also buy it from here for a bargain £4.98. Word.

Cock Off Pig Tits

Now then- Wanted to highlight a couple of blogs that are doing sterling work at the moment. Kiwi Tapes Focuses on New Zealand artists and has recently thrown up a few gems including this compilation of 60's Psych bands which contains some right belters:

The Bluestars- Social End Product (Z Share) (YSI)

Also features a faithful cover of Love's '7 & 7 is'

Tomorrows Love- 7 & 7 is (Z Share) (YSI)

Also check out Mutant Sounds if you haven't already done so- A supreme collection of weird & wonderful tracks from long forgotten artists. Also Have lots of Can. This has been one of my favorite discovery's from New York No-Wavers Intense Molecular Activity:

Intense Molecular Activity- Blurb (Z Share) (YSI)

Without these sites lots of great music would be irrecoverable. Top Blogging.

I do many things. I span the genres - they call me the genre spanner.

Some Friday treats for yoose- Yo La Tengo's 'Little eyes' is a perfect slice of Indie pop. The lyrics are wonderfully well-formed: "Took a walk alone last night, Slept inside your head".
Also includes exemplary use of the tambourine.

Yo La Tengo- Little Eyes (Z Share) (YSI)

Dan Deacon is releasing a 7" on the inaugural Wham City records. His tune of the same name is a sprawling 12 minute beast of goodness. A record that immediately makes me want to hunt for new land..

Dan Deacon- Wham City (Z Share) (YSI)

Should really have mentioned Ike Turner's passing before now- Heard 'River Deep, Mountain High' on the radio for the first time in ages the other day, still sounds fantastic. RIP.

Ike & Tina Turner- River Deep, Mountain High (Z Share) (YSI)

Good Weekend.

Exponential Records

Red Adair, Larry Hagman, Buddy Holly, Jayne Mansfield, Willie Nelson, Lee Harvey Oswald, Janis Joplin, George W. Bush & ZZ Top. Whats the common link? Texas. Now add Exponential records to that list. I've been giving my ear to their latest compilation 'Wait Until the Ice melts' & it's an arresting collection of electronica & Indie music. It is available in March & you can order the record from their website shop.
I could have posted up any of the 14 tracks on the compilation, the quality is top draw. I've chosen this drum heavy lick from [On Hiatus]:

[On Hiatus]- Out of the Blue (Z Share) (YSI)

Go & say Hello.

May I suggest using your night stick officer?

Look out for the new Cornelius E.P 'Gum'. It features remixes from Books & Prefuse 73, who gives him a right bollocking:

Cornelius- Gum (Prefuse 73 remix) (Z Share)
(YSI)

Miss Kittin's new record is entitled 'Batbox' and comes out at the end of the month. This is how she describes the L.P: “Batbox is a redemption. Let the bats in my head fly out. I was saying goodbye to old ghosts, allowing light to reduce the shadows and fight the dark. It was like opening a window on new perceptions, not with my eyes but through intuition, just like bats and cats do.”
Love the low slung bass on 'Grace'. In your face. I'm gonna spray you with Mace. Ace.

Miss Kittin- Grace (Z Share) (YSI)

The soundtrack to the film Juno is very good- It features The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth & this little ditty from The Moldy Peaches.

The Moldy Peaches- Anyone Else but You (Z Share) (YSI)

Just back off.

You're so pretty, like a tree or a high-class prostitute..

Why? returns to your screens with his new album 'The Hollows'. Remixes come from the likes of Dntel, Xiu Xiu & the track i'm posting remixed by Boards of Canada. You can get this release on lilac vinyl from Warpmart.

Why?- Good Friday (Boards of Canada remix) (Z Share) (YSI)

Boards also completed a remix for Why? with his previous outfit cLOUDDEAD. Sounds like a Lo-fi 'A Day in the life'.

cLOUDDEAD- Dead dogs Two (Boards of Canada remix) (Z Share) (YSI)

Stay Well.

It's the teamwork that makes the dreamwork..

100 up- Thought i'd post some absolute fav's: Gonzales released his album 'Uber Alles' in the year 2000. It's an eclectic electronic brew. It contains 'The Worst Mc' which has the greatest (& wonkiest) bassline ever-

Gonzales- The Worst MC (Z Share) (YSI)

From Neu's '1975' record come's 'Isi'. A perfect combo of beautiful melody & driving drums. Well Skill:

Neu!- Isi (Z Share) (YSI)

Last up is Nick Drake- 'Riverman' is ethereal & unequaled. Although i've often wondered what it would sound like with some beats underneath it..

Nick Drake- Riverman (Z Share) (YSI)

Good Day.

No time for Dilly Dallying..

Happy new year- What's new for 2008? I'm sure there will be a Nu-scene™ to get excited about very soon.
First up is Beach House- They are releasing their long player 'Devotion' in February and give off a Beach Boys/Grizzly Bear type of vibe. A very smooth start to the year:

Beach House- You came to Me (Z Share) (YSI)

The December Sound snuck out their 'Silver Album' in December(Spooky)- Lots of psychedelic fuzz. Shoegaze is strong across the Atlantic at the moment:

The December Sound- Painkiller (Z Share)
(YSI)

Couldn't turn our backs on 2007 without remembering a true great- Lee Hazlewood passed on in August. I've been re-visiting his 'Requiem for an almost Lady' ever since. A truly masterful record. 'Come on Home to me' is just perfect:

Lee Hazlewood- Come on Home to me (Z Share) (YSI)
