Discovered some interesting covers lately, so i thought i'd share them with yoose. The first one is a cover of Justice's "Stress" by Canadian hardcore band Fucked Up. And they bloomin' nail it.

Dinkin' flicka

This week ESG have released a collector's edition of their seminal album "A South Bronx Story" on Soul Jazz (This blog seems to have turned into a Soul Jazz/Joakim appreciation society lately). It features rarities & alternative mixes of tracks such as "You're no good" and "Moody". SUPERMASSIVESSENTIAL: Buy it.

Been meaning to post this for a while, the DJ Koze remix of 'Atlas'. Doesn't sound anything like the original, but it's a perfectly nice little plodder.

Shouldn't have bothered...

Not much Four Tet activity lately, he's been touring with Steven Reid but i find their stuff a bit devoid of tune. He has done a couple of remixes this year, one for the now defunct Arab Strap & one for Explosions in the Sky. Both winners:

Arab Strap- The First Big Weekend (Four Tet remix) (Z Share)

Debut release from Duke Dumont hits the record shops this week- "Lean & bounce" has been hyped for weeks, a top piece of stabby electro. The rest of the E.P is pretty good too, you can pick up the vinyl here.

Joakim appears again, this time he's done a lovely edit of JJ Cale's 'Ride me high'- it's part of the dirty space disco series on tigiersushi. D-I-S-C-O:

Enjoy this trip, and it is a trip..

One of my favourite compilations/mixes from the last year or so is Jarvis Cocker & Steve Mackey's 'The Trip'. It's full of obscure pop gems from the likes of the Everly brothers, The Human League & Add N to X. You can buy it HERE:

Some tracks from it-

Going Underground

Lots of speculation regarding The Tuss- Could it be Aphex twin? Certainly sounds like him & with track titles such as 'Shiz Ko e' the evidence does seem to mount. It's also on Rephlex. Have a listen:

The Tuss- Goodbye Rute (Z Share)

The Tuss- Goodbye Rute (Yousendit)

Some more Subway- A new E.P 'Satellites' is out on Soul Jazz records. Moroder synths & Krautrock drums is always a good combo:

FAD

The Soulwax remix of LCD's "Daft Punk is playing at my house" has been around for yonks, but a few whites have recently appeared with lots of Daft Punk samples cut into the intro. Rumour has it that this is the mix Soulwax submitted but they couldn't get clearance for it. Have a listen to the vinyl rip, if you want to grab the wax then there are some here. It's superlimitedgrabonewhilstyoucan. But then they always are:

Some more DFA- New signings The Shocking Pinks had there first 12" out a week or two ago. It's been remixed by the Glimmers & it sounds like a lost Liquid Liquid record. Can't wait to hear it on a BIG soundsystem:

Most importantly, it's been confirmed that there will be a sixth season of 'Curb your Enthusiasm'. It's due to air in America this September.

Check out the new Hot Chip DJ kicks mix- It lurches between pounding techno & Ray Charles. They also use one of my favourite records from the past 6 months or so, Subway- 'Persuasion'. Unfortunately they only use about a minute and a half of it so here is the full version:

Subway- Persuasion (Z Share)

Both these tracks have been ripped from vinyl, so you may hear a few pops & crackles. As it should be.

Really like this video from Trevor Childs, reminds me a lot of Jeff Lewis- Have a look:
